Meet The Team

The RACE-CARS Trial Team and the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) bring substantial experience with design, conduct, coordination, and completion of research trials.  RACE-CARS Trial leadership is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team of Duke investigators and operational staff.  The RACE-CARS Trial will be supported by a Steering Committee, Data Coordinating Center, Clinical Coordinating Center, and Implementation Science team.

Clinical Coordinating Center (CCC)

Christopher Granger, MD,

Principal Investigator

Dr. Granger oversees the entire RACE-CARS project and will also Chair the Steering Committee.

Monique Starks, MD, MHS,

Co-Investigator

Dr. Starks assists in the development of individualized county interventions, collection of implementation outcomes, and audit and feedback for intervention counties.  She works with Drs. Granger and Mark to play a leadership role in the execution of the operational aspects of RACE-CARS, including serving on RACE-CARS Steering Committee.

James G. Jollis, MD, FACC,

Co-Investigator

Dr. Jollis provides thought leadership and expertise in improving systems of care for hospitals, EMS agencies, and emergency dispatch centers.  He also serves on the RACE-CARS Steering Committee and assists with trial design and conduct.

Sana Al-Khatib, MD, MHS,

Co-Investigator

Dr. Al-Khatib provides thought leadership for the intervention systems committee, oversees the development of guideline-based protocols for study interventions, leads data standards, and serves on the RACE-CARS Steering Committee.

Lisa Monk, MSN, RN, CPHQ

Implementation Director

Ms. Monk works with the PIs to develop and implement individualized intervention county prescriptions. She engages with and leads health systems and counties to implement strategies to meet RACE-CARS goals.

Konstantin Krychtiuk, MD, PhD

Research Fellow

Dr. Krychtiuk is research fellow from Austria. Dr. Krychtiuk works closely with Dr. Granger and the rest of the Clinical Coordinating Team to review county level data, survey counties about current practices, and develop reports and manuscripts.

Data Coordinating Center (DCC)

Daniel Mark, MD, MPH

Principal Investigator

Dr. Mark oversees the clinical aspects of the DCC activities, serving as primary clinical liaison with Dr. Granger. He also oversees the collection of post-discharge follow-up data from the DCRI Call Center and the activities required for the Economic Sub-study of RACE-CARS. Dr. Mark serves on the Steering Committee.

Hussein Al-Khalidi, PhD

Principal Investigator

Dr. Al-Khalidi serves as the Statistical PI for the DCC and as a member of the Steering Committee. He oversees the statistical design, execution, and data analysis for RACE-CARS, and shares in the responsibilities for the overall management of DCC.

Eric Yow, MS

Biostatistician

Mr. Yow is responsible for developing detailed statistical analysis plans, conducting analyses, and contributing to manuscripts. He also helps coordinate data monitoring committee meetings and prepare operational and DSMB reports.

Lisa Kaltenbach, MS

Biostatistician

Ms. K is responsible for developing detailed statistical analysis plans, conducting analyses, and contributing to manuscripts. She also helps coordinate data monitoring committee meetings and prepare operational and DSMB reports.

Khaula Baloch, MPH

Project Leader

Ms. Baloch works closely with Dr. Mark and is responsible for leading the collection of post-discharge follow-up data at the DCRI Call Center.

Operational

Kimberly Ward, MPH

Program Director

Ms. Ward is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the project and serves as the main contact for the overall trial. She works with the Principal Investigators of the CCC and DCC to develop and implement plans for the timely and successful completion of the project.

Steve Vandeventer, EMT-P

NC CARES Quality and Data Manager

Mr. Vandeventer serves as the RACE-CARS CARES Coordinator. He manages the NC CARES database, provides ongoing standardized data entry training for all NC CARES users, and conducts assessments of NC CARES data quality and completeness.

Tyler Cope, DPT, ATC

Community Coordinator

Mr. Cope works directly with community partners in the trial counties to help implement community-based interventions focused on CPR training.

Sarah Brady, BS

Project Coordinator

Ms. Brady is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the project, provides regulatory support, and serves as the first point of operational contact for the counties.

Brian Goings, MPH

Community Coordinator

Mr. Goings works directly with community partners in the trial counties to help implement community-based interventions focused on CPR training.

Implementation

Hayden Bosworth, PhD

Co-Investigator

Dr. Bosworth leads the implementation formative evaluation and analysis for the RACE-CARS Trial.

Audrey Blewer, PhD, MPH

Co-Investigator

Dr. Blewer assists the implementation team with data collection and interpretation.

Megan Oakes, MS

Program Leader

Ms. Oakes works with Drs. Bosworth and Blewer to complete the coding and analysis for the implementation interviews. She will also be responsible for scheduling meetings, providing regulatory support, and other study processes/procedures.
